This pivotal position within Government Affairs is tasked with fostering the department's connections with left-leaning, bipartisan, and nonpartisan public policy organizations, including think tanks and advocacy groups, that shape public policy affecting Citi's operational capabilities and client services. The role emphasizes relationship-building to enhance Citi's reputation and align with its public policy objectives. Reporting to the head of third-party public policy engagement, this position collaborates closely with the U.S. government affairs team and other departments, including Citi's Community Investing and Development team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary representative of Citi's public policy objectives to left-leaning, bipartisan, and nonpartisan public policy organizations, including think tanks and advocacy groups.
  • Promote Citi's priorities regarding public policy that influences its business operations and client services by formulating and executing a strategic engagement plan with relevant organizations.
  • Establish and nurture relationships that bolster Citi's reputation and policy objectives.
  • Forge strategic alliances with policy organizations.
  • Articulate Citi's public policy stances and their beneficial implications.
  • Represent Citi in discussions with policy organizations and at public events.
  • Serve as a resource for government affairs management, colleagues, and internal business partners, which includes:
    • Identifying, analyzing, prioritizing, and regularly communicating the business and reputational impacts of the policy perspectives held by these organizations.
    • Building internal consensus regarding the organization's policy positions.
    • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to define strategic engagement priorities, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated approach, especially with external policy organizations that may have overlapping interests with Citi.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience working with left-leaning, bipartisan, and nonpartisan public policy organizations, whether from government, a major corporation, trade association, private law or government affairs firm, advocacy organizations, or think tanks.
  • Strong existing connections with public policy advocacy groups, think tanks, and other organizations that influence public policy at federal, state, and/or local levels, potentially impacting the bank's operations and client services.
  • Preferred experience in financial services public policy.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills to effectively influence and build trust with diverse audiences, including delivering presentations to senior officials and stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in creating and leading engagement strategies to achieve public policy objectives, ideally for a business, including developing strategic partnerships at various governmental levels, designing and implementing policy campaigns, and advocating for policy goals to government officials and leaders of influential organizations.
  • Experience advising business leadership on public policy developments and their implications.
  • Proven ability to cultivate strong relationships and influence both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

  • Collaboration and Influence: A team-oriented individual with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain robust relationships with key stakeholders, effectively interacting and communicating with a wide range of audiences, including experienced colleagues, senior government affairs leaders, and partners from public policy organizations.
  • Business Insight and Results Orientation: Proactive in taking ownership of responsibilities within a dynamic corporate environment, self-motivated with the ability to manage deadlines and deliverables with minimal supervision, and capable of strategic and tactical thinking to address challenges or advance business objectives while adapting to changing circumstances.

Education

A bachelor's degree is required.

Salary Range: $182,000 - $273,600.00
