Position Overview

The Senior Vice President of Policy Advocacy plays a crucial role in steering OATS' policy research initiatives, which inform the organization's public policy stance and influence the implementation of effective solutions. This position leads the operation of the Policy Institute, OATS' esteemed think tank, and identifies both current and emerging policy priorities. The SVP collaborates with internal and external experts to enhance policy research and analysis, ultimately supporting OATS' mission to improve the lives of older Americans and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establishes the strategic vision for OATS' public policy research and analysis, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and the implementation of impactful solutions.
  • Oversees the Policy Institute, guiding the development and execution of its strategic plan while maintaining a reputation for excellence in thought leadership.
  • Provides strategic direction to enhance the Policy Institute's influence in shaping public policy at various levels, ensuring effective outreach to key stakeholders.
  • Identifies and anticipates emerging issues relevant to older adults, positioning OATS to proactively address these challenges through insightful research and actionable solutions.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor on public policy matters, supporting senior leadership in strategic decision-making processes.
  • Leads a high-performing team of policy experts, fostering an environment of innovation and scholarly excellence.
  • Ensures the production of comprehensive public policy analysis and research, collaborating with stakeholders to communicate findings effectively.
  • Manages a substantial annual budget and oversees a team of policy professionals, conducting regular meetings to set strategic priorities and review progress.
Qualifications
  • Master's degree or Juris Doctorate required.
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in public policy or a related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a leadership role, demonstrating a track record of guiding strategic initiatives.
  • Extensive knowledge in aging policy, health policy, or economic security policy.
  • Proven experience in shaping public policy research agendas and influencing outcomes at various governmental levels.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex policy issues to diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated capability to represent the organization effectively in various public policy forums.
