Position: Culinary Services Team Member

The Toledo Zoo & Aquarium has been a cornerstone of education, inspiration, and enjoyment in our community for over a century. We are seeking individuals who are enthusiastic about acquiring new skills and delivering exceptional experiences to our visitors. This role involves assisting in food preparation, ensuring excellent customer service, adhering to cash handling protocols, and maintaining cleanliness and safety in food service areas. This is a part-time, non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Food Service Department across various outlets, engaging in both front-of-house and back-of-house responsibilities.
  • Operate a cash register, process orders, responsibly serve alcohol, assist with catered events, and manage inventory.
  • Participate in food preparation and cooking tasks.
  • Be available to work in all food service areas, including catering, concessions, and dining facilities.
  • Maintain cleanliness in concession areas and ensure that equipment meets sanitation and health standards.
  • Comply with all Toledo Zoo policies and procedures, as well as OSHA and health/safety regulations.
  • Provide assistance to other Visitor Services departments, including Catering, Park Operations, Merchandising, and Warehouse operations.
  • Support food service managers and supervisors with additional tasks as required.
  • Utilize various equipment and machinery, including radios, telephones, cash registers, computers, ovens, grills, fryers, dishwashers, freezers, refrigerators, steam equipment, kitchen tools, scales, etc.
  • Engage and communicate effectively with staff, customers, and supervisors.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Preferred experience in food service or a comparable combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge.
  • Ability to follow directions, work independently, and manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills are advantageous.
  • Availability to work weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Physical capability to remain on your feet and work outdoors for extended periods.
  • The Toledo Zoo maintains a drug-free workplace, including marijuana.
