  • Conduct thorough interviews with patients to collect complete and accurate confidential demographic and financial information, adhering to regulatory standards.
  • Perform pre-registration tasks, verify insurance coverage, and collect necessary copayments or deductibles.
  • Ensure timely and precise entry of confidential patient data in compliance with hospital policies and federal regulations, including HIPAA and EMTALA.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service to patients and families, addressing individual needs with compassion.
  • Assign appropriate ICD-10 codes for registration and billing compliance during scheduling and registration.
  • Obtain necessary signatures and information in accordance with regulatory requirements while maintaining compliance with federal regulations.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits using available electronic systems or phone inquiries.
  • Educate patients regarding their financial responsibilities and collect prepayments for services not covered by insurance.
  • Utilize multiple computer applications for patient registration, appointment scheduling, and retrieval of surgical, testing, insurance, and financial information.
  • Act as a liaison with various departments to gather required data or escalate issues as necessary.
  • Manage exception accounts related to registration errors, working collaboratively with payers.
  • Cross-train to support different areas within Patient Access with minimal supervision.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Patient Access Department.
  • Provide system support and training to other staff members on applications used in patient access procedures.
  • Assist in screening patients and visitors for infectious diseases upon entry into the facility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 6 months experience in a public-facing role; healthcare experience preferred.
  • Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strict adherence to patient confidentiality; proficiency in data entry.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with medical terminology, EPIC, Passport, and Microsoft Outlook preferred; understanding of insurance verification and point of service collections is advantageous.
