Job Overview

OBJECTIVE: Under the supervision of the Camp Coordinator, this role is tasked with designing, directing, executing, and overseeing activities and events for children attending the camp. The individual will ensure a secure environment where children can enjoy, learn, and develop their skills. This position requires a person who exemplifies positive behavior, imparting values of respect and responsibility through engaging physical activities and recreational experiences.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and facilitate a diverse range of group activities weekly, including arts and crafts, nature exploration, songs, games, and more.
  • Engage with children aged 4 to 12 in a lively and positive manner.
  • Encourage appropriate conduct among campers and address any misconduct swiftly.
  • Provide constant supervision to campers to ensure their safety.
  • Respond to emergencies and administer first aid as necessary.
  • Serve as a role model for children, demonstrating suitable behavior and fostering a safe, inclusive atmosphere for all participants and staff.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks, including trash disposal, mopping, sweeping, and sanitizing restrooms.
  • Adhere to all guidelines, policies, and procedures outlined in the City of San Angelo's operational handbook.
  • Maintain accurate records related to camp operations, including incident reports, daily attendance, and camper check-in/check-out procedures.
  • Uphold camp regulations and safety protocols.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents and the community.
  • Complete additional tasks as assigned by Camp Coordinators and Recreation Supervisors.
  • Availability may include up to 40 hours per week, with varying hours from Monday to Friday, and occasional weekend shifts.
  • This is a seasonal position.
  • Consistent and punctual attendance is essential.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Prior experience in daycare or childcare is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Familiarity with indoor and outdoor recreational activities is advantageous.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • CPR and First Aid certification is mandatory and must be obtained prior to the start of camp.
  • Reliable transportation or a valid driver's license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must present an original certified driving record from their state of licensure.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work is conducted outdoors and may involve inclement weather conditions.
  • Engagement with children occurs in both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Responsibilities may include activities in or around water and/or pool environments.
  • Position requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Noise levels in the work environment can be moderately high.
