Babcock & Wilcox is in search of skilled professionals with degrees in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil Engineering, or related Engineering Technology fields to become part of our dedicated team of Field Service Technicians. Our experts deliver top-tier support and knowledge across a wide array of B&W utility, industrial, and environmental solutions for our clientele.

As a Field Service Technician III, you will engage in a diverse range of responsibilities and tasks that will keep you actively involved in your role.

Your responsibilities will include:

overseeing the operation and upkeep of B&W or competitor equipment; commissioning new machinery, providing technical advisory services during significant project phases; and assisting with non-destructive testing (NDT) activities, among others.

You will also offer hands-on training to less experienced Service Technicians while continuing to enhance your own expertise.

Building and sustaining customer relationships will be essential, and you will operate with a high degree of autonomy in your daily tasks.


Babcock & Wilcox serves a diverse clientele, including power generation facilities, refineries, mining operations, pulp and paper manufacturers, healthcare institutions, educational establishments, breweries, and various other sectors that require steam or environmental systems for their operational needs.

This role will primarily focus on utility power generation.

This position necessitates extensive travel (90%) and may involve driving on client premises.

Additional responsibilities of the Field Service Technicians include:

Engaging with existing equipment through:
boiler inspections and repairs, condition assessments, and evaluations of boiler operations and tuning.

  • Gathering and analyzing field data.
  • Providing support in maintenance planning based on boiler inspection results and operational evaluations, and consulting during pre-outage planning.
  • Collaborating with customers, internal sales teams, vendors, and subcontractors with minimal oversight from the District Engineer (Manager).
  • Working directly with internal engineering teams and subject matter experts to assist with on-site troubleshooting and long-term recommendations.
  • Preparing technical documentation, typically detailing work performed, activities undertaken, and recommendations made.
  • Participating as part of a team during project startups and outages.
  • Offering technical support for construction and outage management.
  • Assisting in the development of project and parts opportunities.

Field Service roles are dynamic, providing a variety of job experiences.

This position offers a challenging yet rewarding environment with a steep learning curve, allowing the technician to gain practical insights into power generation facilities and all facets of B&W products.


We are looking for candidates who possess:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, or similar Engineering Technology.
  • Over five years of industry experience in power generation facilities or equivalent field environments.
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • A self-motivated attitude with excellent oral and written communication skills, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • A willingness and desire to travel.
