The Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) plays a crucial role in generating leads and facilitating mortgage loans through various channels, including partnerships with real estate agents and builders. A solid grasp of mortgage regulations and an array of banking products is essential to foster strong customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
As an MLO, you will:
- Identify financing goals and objectives.
- Conduct comprehensive loan interviews to gather necessary customer information.
- Provide detailed loan information and support to clients, realtors, and other stakeholders.
- Screen loan applications and analyze credit reports.
- Collect and verify financial data, addressing any discrepancies.
- Inform clients about closing costs and related fees.
- Prepare and maintain records and reports regarding loan origination and closing activities.
- Ensure consistent communication with clients throughout the loan process.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with real estate professionals and other partners.
- Respond to inquiries from potential customers regarding various mortgage options.
- Uphold loan quality in accordance with bank policies and regulatory standards.
Compliance and Community Engagement
Adherence to all relevant laws and regulations is mandatory, including the Bank Secrecy Act and RESPA. Participation in community service and bank-sponsored events is encouraged to support the bank's mission and values.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A two-year college degree or equivalent specialized training.
- Two to five years of relevant experience in mortgage lending.
- Knowledge of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac guidelines.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial documents.
Work Environment
This role requires the ability to work in a shared office environment and may involve occasional travel. Candidates should be prepared for a range of physical demands, including sitting for extended periods and operating standard office equipment.
