Overview:
The West Burlington Independent School District is in search of a dedicated full-time Custodian. This role involves either first or second shift responsibilities, offering a comprehensive benefits package. The starting wage is competitive. Previous maintenance experience is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct routine cleaning and maintenance tasks throughout school facilities.
  • Ensure safety and cleanliness by securing the building at the start and end of each shift.
  • Perform cleaning duties in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, and other areas as per district standards.
  • Maintain floors through sweeping, mopping, buffing, stripping, and waxing.
  • Care for carpets, rugs, and upholstered furniture.
  • Wash walls, ceilings, windows, and doors to maintain a clean environment.
  • Remove graffiti and clean glass surfaces.
  • Replace light bulbs and assist in setting up and breaking down furniture for events.
  • Clear snow and ice from entrances and walkways.
  • Perform grounds maintenance and assist with deliveries and supply management.
  • Participate in recycling efforts and waste management.
Additional Duties:
  • Assist with general cleaning and maintenance tasks during school breaks.
  • Support special events and programs as needed.
  • Carry out other related responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Equipment Used:
Operate various hand tools and power equipment, including cleaning machines, vacuum cleaners, and grounds maintenance tools.

Safety Compliance:
Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures while using tools and equipment. Proper safety gear must be worn at all times.

Qualifications:
  • Ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Capability to identify and report maintenance issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff and students.
  • Basic mathematical skills for measurements and calculations.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work at heights using ladders and lifts.
Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Work in standard school environments with exposure to cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Qualifications Profile:
  • Combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in custodial or maintenance roles is advantageous.
