Practical Nursing Specialist

The Practical Nursing Specialist is a certified nursing professional who delivers skilled and empathetic care to patients and their families under the direct oversight of a physician and Nurse Manager.
This role collaborates with physicians and other healthcare personnel to ensure a quality-driven, patient-focused workflow within the clinical setting while also acting as a knowledgeable resource for both clinical and administrative support staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides comprehensive physical care and emotional support to patients and families under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and Medical Director.
Engages in the planning, execution, and assessment of nursing care and treatment strategies; observes, documents, and reports relevant patient information into the electronic health record system in accordance with established protocols; identifies patient care requirements and utilizes nursing resources effectively.
Facilitates and reinforces patient education initiatives, guiding patients on the appropriate use of medications.
Instructs patients on wound care techniques.
Administers medications within the defined parameters set by the clinical service after successful orientation; performs nursing procedures as outlined by the clinical service.
Captures photographic documentation of patients with various dermatological conditions using diverse photographic methods and equipment.
Participates in Quality Assurance initiatives; supports colleagues in upholding established care standards.
Identifies patient care needs and appropriately utilizes nursing resources.
Triages urgent clinical calls from patients, which may lead to scheduling appointments, including Telehealth consultations.
Communicates pathology, laboratory results, and care plans to patients.
Utilizes In-Basket messaging to track all biopsies and ensures that all necessary treatments are administered as per the physician's schedule.
Provides clinical nursing support across various specialty services.
Obtains prior authorizations for medications as required.
Contributes to the development and implementation of innovative nursing practices; engages in daily activities that promote the comfort and safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
Effectively utilizes and conserves medical equipment and supplies.
Orders medical supplies and maintains adequate inventory levels.
Offers feedback to the Nurse Manager regarding perceived needs within the unit.
Participates in unit and service committees.
Ensures that the physical environment is well-maintained.
Establishes and enforces annual safety and fire regulations for the practice, adhering to established protocols and ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines.
Addresses routine and non-routine issues and takes appropriate measures to resolve them.
The individual in this role must demonstrate a solid understanding of the principles of growth and development across the patient lifespan.
Additionally, they must possess the ability to assess patient data concerning age-specific needs and provide care as outlined in departmental policies and procedures.
Considers feedback from patients, families, and visitors and relays it to the Nurse Manager for continuous improvement.

Attends professional nursing association meetings.
Demonstrates a commitment to the highest standards of patient care and service excellence.

A collaborative, team-oriented attitude is essential, along with the ability to work independently and interact effectively with physicians, managers, and staff across the organization.
Possesses effective interpersonal and communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and the flexibility to manage multiple tasks.
Administers injections as required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Current state licensure as a Practical Nurse is required.
BLS certification is required.
EDUCATION:
Graduate of an accredited LPN program is required.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 1 year of LPN experience is required.
Certification: Basic Life Support.
