Aquatic Safety Specialist

As a key member of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our members and guests in the outdoor pool area.

The Outdoor Lifeguard II is responsible for assisting the Aquatic Director in supervising the outdoor pool area, providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all users. This role requires a high level of physical fitness, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining a safe aquatic environment, including providing work direction to staff and ensuring compliance with YMCA policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate lifeguard placement and rotations during shifts to ensure efficient guarding and safety.
  • May be responsible for opening or closing the pool, supporting pool chemistry, and other tasks as needed.
  • Provide quality customer service to members and participants, responding to their needs and concerns in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist with implementation of in-service training sessions and attend monthly in-service trainings to stay up-to-date on the latest safety protocols and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Minimum age of 18
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in lifeguarding
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard Certification, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications
  • YMCA Leader Certificate (obtained within 90 days)
  • Ability to physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard
  • Ability to hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to see and observe all sections of an assigned zone of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodations

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

Physically perform all skills required of a lifeguard, hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment, and be able to see and observe all areas of responsibility.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, including a Criminal Record check, Drug Screening, and motor vehicle record (MVR) according to company policy
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship
