The Patient Registration Specialist is responsible for efficiently registering patients for medical services across various settings, including clinics and emergency departments. The specialist will also address inquiries from patients and staff, ensuring a smooth registration experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Registration: Welcome and register patients for medical services in a dynamic environment. Verify patient demographics and insurance information, ensuring compliance with national standards. Utilize problem-solving skills to confirm patient identity and minimize duplicate records. Conduct interviews to ascertain payer sources and collect necessary signatures.
- Revenue Collection: Assess and collect patient cost-shares and partial payments. Accurately record payments, manage cash drawers, and prepare deposits following cash handling policies. Maintain billing accuracy and adhere to revenue cycle policies while communicating payment policies to patients.
- Appointment Management: Handle messages and appointment scheduling as per guidelines. Facilitate appointment cancellations and referrals based on patient needs.
- Compliance and Documentation: Explain and obtain patient signatures on regulatory forms. Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer requirements. Maintain accurate records of patient identification and insurance information.
- General Support: Ensure the availability of necessary forms and supplies. Assist patients with inquiries and provide information about services and directions. Support the orientation of new staff as needed.
Experience:
- Minimum of six months in healthcare finance, cash handling, or customer service in a high-volume environment.
- Two years of experience in data entry and navigating multiple computer applications.
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities and adaptability to frequent task changes.
- Ability to solve complex problems independently.
- Prior experience in hospital or clinic registration.
- Familiarity with EPIC applications.
- Certification from HFMA or NAHAM is advantageous.
