Community Engagement Specialist

Position: Engagement and Opportunity Professional/ Day Program
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM
Qualifications: A High School Diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of one year of experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collaborate in the creation and execution of personalized service plans.
2. Assist residents with personal care, meal preparation, shopping, social activities, and transportation as needed.
3. Document observations regarding resident participation in daily activities.
4. Conduct monthly fire drills in compliance with regulations and organizational policies.
5. Ensure the safety and functionality of the residence, vehicles, and equipment to promote residents' well-being.
6. Support residents in expressing and meeting their needs within established facility guidelines to foster growth and independence.
7. Implement crisis intervention strategies as outlined in the treatment/support policies when necessary.
8. Respond appropriately to emergency situations following established protocols.
9. Engage as a team member in meetings with supervisors, staff, and other team members.
10. Adhere to all policies and procedures while complying with relevant state regulations.
11. Participate in educational programs, conferences, or continuing education to stay informed about advancements in the field.
12. Foster positive relationships with residents, visitors, families, and staff by addressing inquiries with sensitivity and professionalism, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
Physical Requirements:
Must be ambulatory and possess normal hearing and clear speech. The role requires the ability to climb stairs, pursue individuals, and supervise recreational activities. Candidates should have considerable upper body strength and a full range of motion in arms, hands, legs, and feet. Daily tasks may involve bending, lifting up to 25 lbs, walking up to a mile, and driving for extended periods.
Work Environment:
The position involves working in an office, recreational, and community settings, accessible to individuals meeting the physical requirements mentioned. This may include interaction with residents experiencing mental health challenges, exhibiting behaviors such as shouting or self-harm, while adhering to safety plans for individuals with identified risk factors. Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions is expected while supervising residents outside and assisting with transportation. There may also be exposure to various odors from cleaning products and residents who may struggle with personal hygiene.
