Position Overview:
The Vice President of Financial Operations will deliver exceptional leadership and robust management of comprehensive support services across the institution, focusing on key areas such as financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, accounts receivable, revenue management, cash flow oversight, accounts payable, student financial services, and financial information systems.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this role encompasses the preparation of financial statements adhering to all applicable standards and regulations. The Vice President will ensure compliance with financial protocols, internal controls, and audit requirements. This position also involves strategic planning and project management for significant initiatives within the financial services domain.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise all personnel and processes within the Finance Office, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and employee relations.
- Establish both short-term and long-term objectives to foster an efficient operational environment in alignment with regulatory guidelines.
- Assess staffing needs, recruit and assign personnel, and facilitate training programs.
- Conduct regular staff meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Interpret and develop financial policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Analyze and resolve intricate financial challenges while overseeing auxiliary service operations.
- Manage the financial oversight of state and local funds, developing policies for financial reporting, budgeting, revenue collection, and cash management.
- Oversee student payment plans and financial aid distribution.
- Advise academic deans and business managers on fiscal policies and assist in budget management and financial operations.
- Monitor compliance with institutional, state, and federal financial policies, ensuring operational efficiency.
- Facilitate the implementation and tracking of budgets, providing timely financial analyses for senior management.
- Direct the preparation of internal and external financial reports involving diverse fund types.
- Coordinate the year-end financial closing process and ensure timely completion of financial statements.
- Certify monthly reconciliations and quarterly financial reports to relevant authorities.
- Provide leadership for campus financial offices and oversee the development of automated financial management systems.
- Ensure adherence to financial compliance and internal controls, coordinating audit responses as necessary.
- Prepare cash flow and investment reports to inform strategic financial decisions.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in leading financial operations within a large organization.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to make informed decisions.
- In-depth knowledge of fund accounting and financial statement preparation.
- Proficient in managing complex budgets and payroll systems.
- Experience in training and supervising finance professionals.
- Proficient in financial software and reporting tools.
- Ability to develop effective training programs for financial systems.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Master's degree in accounting or a related field from an accredited institution.
