Materials Engineer II

Amentum is seeking a highly skilled Materials Engineer II to support the PM Soldier Survivability project office under Program Executive Office Soldier.

This position offers a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic and cohesive team whose mission is to provide and rapidly deliver enhanced protection, individual equipment, and aviation life support capabilities.

As a Materials Engineer II, you will be responsible for providing the following support to the Project Manager Soldier Survivability:

  • Performing systems engineering and integration with other items of clothing and individual equipment, weapon systems, combat vehicles, and airframes.
  • Assisting in planning design approach from statements of requirements and conducting studies for the purpose of developing new and improved products and component materials.
  • Creating technical drawings, specifications, and physical characteristics/properties of items as they affect the design, development, manufacture, end-item use.
  • Considering the properties of various textile, chemical, plastic, ceramic, metallic, and synthetic materials to assess their ability to meet military requirements as components of military equipment for production and field use.
  • Conducting market research, maintaining currency in knowledge of civilian and military material research and production.
  • Assisting in constructing test prototype models and modified designs to remedy defects or to improve performance.
  • Reviewing test plans, procedures, and reports for technical adequacy on assigned programs, for both Government and contractor tests, as well as all failure reports.
  • Assisting with reviews and evaluations of system performance against specification requirements, monitoring and assessing field performance, and assessing risk of meeting user and specification requirements.
  • Determining need for field or laboratory tests. Developing and executing simple to complex test plans and designs of experiments. Analyzing the results of tests using a variety of tools, including statistical methods.
  • Making recommendations regarding suitability of materials, designs, and products for use in military equipment.
  • Reviewing program management documents to ensure accuracy and adequacy of technical content.

Qualifications:

  • BS Engineering or Equivalent and five (5) years relevant experience.
  • Manage Materials Engineering on assigned programs with oversight from Senior Materials Engineer.
  • Equivalent or experience commensurate with ASM Certified Materials Engineer.

Required Clearance:

  • ACTIVE CLEARANCE LEVEL REQUIRED: Secret. Please note US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Government Clearance.
