Director of Philanthropy

Defenders of Wildlife seeks a seasoned Director of Philanthropy to lead our major gifts efforts and cultivate strategic partnerships with key stakeholders. Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive major gifts strategy to secure significant funding for Defenders of Wildlife's conservation programs.
  • Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors, including individuals, foundations, and corporations.
  • Work closely with the Senior Director of Philanthropy, Vice President of Philanthropy, and Development operations staff to achieve annual revenue goals.
  • Collaborate with senior management, program staff, and Board members to execute donor strategies and advance Defenders of Wildlife's mission.
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, with a focus on increasing the pipeline of $100,000+ donors.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in a related field.
  • 10 years of relevant experience, including 5 years of supervisory experience and 5+ years of experience in major gift donor cultivation and solicitation.
  • Demonstrated success in developing substantive donor relationships and supporting senior management, program staff, and high-level volunteers in executing donor strategies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal skills and analytical, strategic, and problem-solving abilities.
