Job Summary

The University of California, Irvine is seeking an experienced and skilled Director of Research Operations to join our team. As a key member of our research community, you will be responsible for managing and providing technical direction for complex academic and research programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and provide technical direction for complex academic and research programs
  • Direct the long-term vision and goals, policies and procedures, and manage ongoing operations of programs
  • Oversee a large research operational budget to achieve objectives
  • Recruit and retain industry leaders to partner with the research program
  • Develop and manage a membership program for industry partners
  • Oversee the administrative operations for the BraveNet collaboration
  • Lead the SSIHI Research Core team and play a crucial role in clinical trials and SSIHI's various multisite, complex research trials
  • Develop trial protocols, coordinate with clinical and research staff, and monitor the progress of ongoing trials
  • Support the Samueli Endowed Chairs research studies and research teams
Requirements
  • Academic or research background and recognized expertise in a selected area
  • Expert oral and written communication skills
  • Leadership experience in academic and/or government agencies
  • Demonstrated expertise in building collaborations between academia, industry, and/or governmental agencies
  • Expert ability to work with dynamic and diverse groups of faculty, staff, and students
  • Managerial experience and proven success in managing a complex research or academic program(s)
  • Skills in organization and customer service to effectively manage multiple important priorities
  • Advanced degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Terminal degree in a related field (PhD, JD, MD, etc.)
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise with program building within a leading academic institution and administrative, budgetary, human resources, and financial principles and practices
  • Strong negotiation skills and verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence/ persuade all levels of staff
