Job Summary:

As a Chief Radiology Technologist at Wellstar Health System, Inc., you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient and professional performance of diagnostic procedures. You will supervise staff, assist with scheduling, and provide safe and age-appropriate care to patients. This position requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in radiology, with experience in modality management and quality control. They will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to interact professionally with patients, families, and colleagues. Additionally, they will be able to prioritize tasks effectively, multitask, and maintain a high level of attention to detail.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Develop and maintain department personnel schedules to ensure adequate coverage for all shifts.
  • Maintain modality workflow to ensure patient throughput and maximize equipment utilization.
  • Maintain staff educational records and ensure that orientation records, certifications, and departmental competencies are completed within designated timeframes.
  • Assist with employee performance management, including issuing Anecdotal and Verbal Warnings and recommending further PM, if necessary.
  • Manage department productivity and adhere to operational standards.
  • Establish and modify department protocols with guidance from physicians and department directors.
  • Ensure that adequate equipment and supplies are available and maintained in the modality.
  • Attend and productively participate in Lead Meetings and department meetings.
  • Serve as the first level of contact for employee concerns.
  • Participate in the implementation of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Provide input into budget recommendations for staffing, supplies, equipment, and other operational expenses.
  • Interview applicants and make hiring recommendations.
  • Orient, train, supervise, and evaluate Imaging Services staff within established timeframes.
  • Assign work requisitions, prepare work schedules, and ensure adequate coverage on all shifts.
  • Assist in the monitoring of departmental compliance with JCAHO and other regulatory agency standards.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve operational and human relations problems.
  • Monitor and control the use of supplies and ensure that departmental par levels are maintained.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the department.
  • Procure necessary supplies in advance of need to avoid delays.
  • Ensure that employees have enough to do at all times, making adjustments daily according to Vision Productivity Report.
  • Maintain the Kronos Timekeeper System to ensure that all hours are captured within designated timeframes.
  • Ensure that assigned personnel adhere to hospital and departmental policies, providing timely notification, interpretation, instruction, or discipline as necessary.
  • Competently handle routine operational matters for the department in the absence of the Director, ensuring continuity, quality, and timeliness of service.
  • Keep the Director informed on aspects of responsibilities on an ongoing basis and ensure prompt notification in the event of a problem or potential problem.
