Position Overview

The Research Funding Administrator (RFA) plays a crucial role within the centralized Office of Research Administration (ORA) at Cedars-Sinai. This position is dedicated to the meticulous and thorough post-award management of research grants and clinical trials assigned to specific departments. The RFA collaborates closely with team members under the guidance of management, ensuring that Principal Investigators (PIs) and their teams receive the necessary support for effective financial oversight of research initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Provide expert assistance to PIs and staff regarding the financial management of research projects, ensuring compliance with funding agency regulations.
  2. Interpret and communicate sponsor requirements to PIs, ensuring they are well-informed of their responsibilities.
  3. Utilize financial compliance and reporting skills to guarantee responsible administration of externally funded awards, philanthropic contributions, and clinical research.
  4. Conduct training sessions for PIs and staff to enhance understanding of research administration policies.
  5. Act as a resource for the research community, offering guidance on institutional and departmental policies.
  6. Engage in career development and departmental improvement initiatives.
  7. Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Primary Duties

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Post Award Reporting & Compliance, the RFA is responsible for:

  1. Overseeing and managing a designated portfolio, including the preparation and submission of invoices and financial reports.
  2. Reviewing transactions and expenditures to ensure alignment with agency requirements.
  3. Conducting thorough analyses of award terms and conditions to assist PIs in maintaining administrative and fiscal compliance.
  4. Monitoring changes in funding agency policies and identifying financial issues that may affect reimbursement.
  5. Communicating financial information effectively to the Cedars-Sinai research community and external funding agencies.
  6. Ensuring timely execution of portfolio management tasks, including financial reporting and invoicing.
  7. Reviewing accounts to confirm that costs are reasonable and compliant with sponsor terms.
  8. Providing deficit reports and monitoring resolutions within Cedars-Sinai departments.
  9. Managing the financial closeout of awards in accordance with institutional and agency policies.
  10. Ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulatory standards.

Specialized Knowledge

The RFA is expected to maintain current knowledge of grantor policies, particularly those of the National Institutes of Health and major non-profit foundations. Familiarity with Uniform Guidance and OASC-3 is essential. The RFA will interpret policies during grant and contract administration and recommend necessary changes to enhance compliance.

Qualifications

Educational Background:

A High School Diploma is required, while a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Sciences, or Liberal Arts is strongly preferred.

Experience:

1-2 years of demonstrated experience in the independent financial administration of research grants and contracts is essential. Candidates should possess a foundational understanding of granting agency policies and institutional systems. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities are mandatory.

The RFA must be proficient in relevant software applications and capable of managing a diverse workload while delivering quality service.
