Laboratory Technical Supervisor

Position Summary:
As a Laboratory Technical Supervisor, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned laboratory section(s), ensuring testing operates efficiently and effectively, and complies with all system and regulatory agency standards. You will provide input into the development of department policies and procedures, and ensure laboratory personnel maintain current knowledge of laboratory techniques, procedures, and equipment operation. You will also assist in meeting the business, financial, customer, service quality, and regulatory requirements of the laboratory, and serve as a technical resource for department personnel.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the assigned laboratory section(s).
- Plan daily work schedules and assignments for section(s), ensuring that work is done and reported promptly and accurately. Support manager(s) in preparing schedules and arranging coverage.
- Recognize the need for and assume departmental responsibilities daily, when scheduled or in the case of staffing shortages.
- Ensure testing operates efficiently and effectively, in accordance with all system and regulatory agency standards, by monitoring department turnaround times, investigating and implementing corrective action, monitoring inventory, and ordering supplies.
- Comply with preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
- Serve as a technical resource to subordinates in resolving complex problems and in investigating and recommending corrective actions in response to incident reports and/or patient complaints.
- Ensure the attainment of objectives through developing, training, and evaluating lab staff, and participating in the hiring process.
- Makes suggestions to manager for improved work methods and ways to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and solve operational problems.
- Perform and verify staff competencies.
- Perform other related duties as required and directed.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in medical technology, or related field.
- MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
- 4 years' experience in related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Supervisory experience.
