Position Summary:
Join the esteemed laboratory of Professor Lukas Chavez at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, where we delve into the genomic and epigenomic alterations associated with pediatric cancers. This role focuses on data-centric investigations into childhood malignancies, particularly examining the mechanisms governing transcriptional regulation of oncogenes and the influence of circular extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) in developing resistance to therapies.
Project Scope:
The research will leverage cutting-edge technologies in cancer data cloud computing, multiome sequencing (both bulk and single-cell), spatial transcriptomics, and advanced epigenomic methodologies. Additionally, machine learning and microscopy image analysis will be utilized to conduct large-scale chromatin studies.

- Lead a project with a focus on chromatin dynamics and gene regulation in pediatric cancers.
- Formulate hypotheses, design and execute experiments, analyze data, and troubleshoot as necessary.
- Engage in data analysis and contribute to the development of computational tools.

- Present findings during weekly lab meetings and at various scientific forums.
- Foster collaborations between the Chavez lab and other research teams within the institute and beyond.
- PhD or equivalent degree in a biological science is preferred.
- Proven experience in computational biology is essential.
- Familiarity with molecular biology, chromatin, and epigenetics.
- Proficiency in statistical methods relevant to biological research.
- Strong computational skills are a must.
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with team members and Principal Investigators.
- Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving capabilities.
- Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective time management skills.
- Exceptional presentation and interpersonal skills.

CompensationThe anticipated salary range for this position is $68,000 - $75,000, based on skills and experience.
