Job Summary:
The Lead Patient Billing Specialist is integral to the efficient and precise billing and collection processes for medical services.
This role involves a comprehensive set of duties aimed at enhancing the revenue cycle for medical services, ensuring exceptional customer service, and managing insurance claim disputes.
Key Responsibilities:Perform billing functions, follow up on accounts receivable, and resolve credit discrepancies to ensure timely claim payments.
Evaluate trends to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the revenue cycle, identifying and addressing underlying issues.
Provide outstanding customer service to staff, insurance representatives, and patients.
Thoroughly document all follow-up actions in the practice management system.
Educate patients regarding their insurance coverage.
Address denied insurance claims, collaborating with insurance providers to resolve issues and expedite payments.
Ensure adherence to privacy laws and the protection of Protected Health Information (PHI).
Communicate clearly, aligning with the organization's values in both verbal and written formats.
Comply with all organizational policies, procedures, quality standards, safety protocols, and infection control measures.
Support the organization's mission, ethical standards, diversity goals, and service expectations.
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; further education is a plus.
Ability to operate telephones, computers, copiers, fax machines, and 10-key calculators proficiently.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively.
Experience in following up on denied insurance claims, with a solid grasp of insurance regulations and appeal procedures.
Familiarity with medical terminology and billing practices in healthcare.
Medical Knowledge:
Understanding of medical billing and coding standards.
Awareness of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA compliance.
