Oklahoma State University (OSU) Extension is a leading organization in providing research-based information to the people of Oklahoma. Our mission is to disseminate knowledge and encourage the adoption of research-generated information in areas such as agriculture, family and consumer sciences, 4-H youth development, and community and rural development.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Extension Educator to join our team as a High Obesity Program Specialist. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the District Program Specialist and High Obesity Assistant Extension Specialist, and immediate supervision of the High Obesity Program Coordinator.
The scope of work for this position is 100% focused on the CDC High Obesity project. Responsibilities include working with community partners to address health disparities related to poor nutrition, physical activity, and obesity using policy, systems, and environmental changes to promote food and nutrition security and safe and accessible physical activity in community and early care and education settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement community-based participatory research projects to improve health outcomes
- Collaborate with community partners to design, promote, and evaluate educational programs
- Provide leadership in designing, promoting, presenting, and evaluating educational programs to reach diverse audiences
- Build and maintain relationships with clientele, advisory groups, and other professionals
- Develop and maintain effective use of computing and computer-based communications technology
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, public health, or a related field
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel connected with official duties
- Reimbursement for official travel
- Demonstrated ability to listen and communicate effectively, and to foster a professional image of OCES
- Demonstrated ability to adapt well to changing priorities, situations, and day-to-day demands
- Commitment to continue personal professional development
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Science degree in family and consumer sciences, health care administration, public health promotion, public health nutrition, or a closely related field
- Experience with community-based participatory research
- Experience using policy, systems, and environmental approaches to improve health outcomes
