Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Naval Facilities Engineering Command. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical systems for facilities, including heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and utilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review cost estimates, budget, and contracting processes to meet acquisition objectives.
  • Develop complete working drawings and specifications for design bid build projects and development of Request for Proposal (RFP) for design build projects.
  • Provide design support prior to construction award and manage post-award aspects of construction projects.
  • Evaluate engineering design, construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of utilities equipment and systems.
  • Write documentation to resolve disagreements concerning facilities engineering issues.

Requirements:

  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license issued from the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, or any State in the U.S.
  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties:
    • Providing technical reviews of facilities construction drawings and specifications for mechanical adequacy, compliance with functional requirements, and conformity with standard engineering and construction practices.
    • Designing and developing layouts, construction drawings, and specifications for facility mechanical systems.
    • Performing engineering services in support of Architectural and Engineering Contracts.
    • Providing pre- and post-award construction contract support.

Additional Information:

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.

Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. You will proactively pursue completion of training required by the CI Community Management Plan and the incumbent's Individual Development Plan (IDP). You will be required to participate, as requested, in FEC - sponsored Design Assist Visits (DAV's).

Occasional physical activity is required including walking, climbing, or bending in the performance of field work, for designs and during field inspections of existing and/or new facilities during design and construction.

Work is performed primarily in an office setting. There are occasional factory visits, and exposures to conditions in buildings and facilities that are under construction. Travel under demanding conditions in support of military operations is also occasionally required.
