We are seeking a highly skilled Automation and Controls Engineer to join our team at Smithfield Foods. As a key member of our automation team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining electrical control systems at our facility.
Key Responsibilities- Design and Development: Develop and implement electrical control systems, including PLC programming, HMI configuration, and variable frequency drive setup.
- Troubleshooting and Repair: Troubleshoot and repair electrical control systems, including PLC, HMI, and drive issues.
- Mentorship and Training: Mentor and train less experienced floor electricians on electrical control systems and troubleshooting techniques.
- Project Management: Plan and execute projects from start to finish with minimal supervision, ensuring timely completion and quality results.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements that minimize downtime and enhance troubleshooting efficiency.
- Technology Roadmap: Develop and present the technology roadmap for automation and controls, ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to safety, food safety, and USDA guidelines in all aspects of electrical control systems design, implementation, and maintenance.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
- Experience: 2+ years of controls engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Industrial Manufacturing Experience: Industrial manufacturing experience is required, with food or pharmaceutical manufacturing experience preferred.
- Technical Skills: Experience with Rockwell PLC, HMI, and drive programming, as well as Siemens PLC, HMI, and drive programming, is required. Networking experience and knowledge of Ignition platform are a plus.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
The physical demands of this role include standing, walking, using hands and arms in varying positions, kneeling, crouching, or crawling to complete tasks such as troubleshooting or repair of production equipment. The employee must also be able to sit for long periods of time to write programs and perform administrative tasks. The employee must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally and work in extremely hot and cold environments regularly.
