Position Overview

Northwestern Memorial Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant to join our Otolaryngology department, collaborating with our General ENT team. This Advanced Practice Provider role involves 80% outpatient and 20% inpatient responsibilities, with travel required between multiple Northwestern locations.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (7:30am - 4:30pm)
  • No nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call duties.
Key Locations: Various Northwestern Medicine facilities

Core Responsibilities:
  • Exhibit clinical proficiency and extensive knowledge through patient care activities, including the diagnosis and management of diverse health issues.
  • Accountable for the health outcomes of a designated patient demographic.
  • Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals in areas of clinical expertise.
  • Develop educational resources for patients, families, and staff within your specialty.
  • Mentor graduate students in advanced practice and patient care methodologies.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives and/or research relevant to your area of expertise.
Essential Duties:
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients' health status through comprehensive health histories and physical examinations.
  • Deliver direct clinical care to patients.
  • Prescribe medications and therapies; order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging studies, and procedures as per clinical privileges.
  • Evaluate patients to determine their need for additional healthcare services.
  • Provide extensive education to patients and their families.
  • Document all care and educational interventions in the medical record accurately.
  • Refer patients to other specialties as necessary.
  • Act as a consultant to other disciplines in your areas of expertise.
  • Integrate research-based knowledge with clinical expertise in decision-making processes.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor in appearance and conduct.
  • Advocate for patients, families, colleagues, and the community.
  • Ensure compliance with certification and continuing education requirements for licensure.
  • Serve as a patient advocate and exemplify the 'Patients First' philosophy.
  • Participate in departmental or hospital committees/task forces as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement educational strategies for patients and their families.
  • Contribute to programs addressing the continuing education needs of staff.
  • Act as a role model and mentor for students.
  • Provide formal education to internal and external groups relevant to your specialty.
  • Engage in quality improvement and/or research initiatives tailored to specific patient populations.
