Job Overview

MHI Ship Repair & Services, a leading marine repair and conversion contractor, is seeking an experienced Material Buyer to support our operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pursue competitive pricing for materials and services in accordance with MHI's procurement procedures and specifications.
  • Create purchase orders in the company's procurement system to facilitate material and service acquisitions.
  • Evaluate bids and potential purchases for materials and services.
  • Update vendor information in the approved vendors list.
  • Arrange equipment rentals for active projects and in-house needs.
Additional Duties:
  • Assist in supervising Procurement Driver for material deliveries and pickups.
  • Perform other duties as necessary and assigned by the Procurement Manager.
  • File purchase orders and supporting documentation.
Requirements:
  • Associate's Degree or equivalent work-related experience.
  • At least three years of ship repair/building experience, preferably with one year of buyer experience in the industry.
  • Familiarity with Contractors Purchasing System Review (CPSR) requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) requirements.
  • Able to analyze and resolve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Work Environment:

This role is based in an office setting. The position requires prolonged sitting, occasional lifting up to 15 pounds, motor coordination skills, ability to perform basic arithmetic accurately and quickly, and the ability to express ideas using the spoken word and perception of speech.
