Overview:
The role of the Mid-Level Hydrographer involves the collection and analysis of marine hydrographic survey data. Candidates should possess prior experience in operating and processing multibeam sonar and side scan sonar data. Experience in mobilizing survey vessels is considered advantageous.
Fieldwork may require extended periods aboard survey vessels as part of a 3-12 member crew working offshore, potentially lasting from 3 to 6 weeks at a time, with the possibility of up to 6 months of work annually, or conducting near-shore operations on a daily basis.
Data processing activities may occur on board survey vessels, in temporary shore-based offices, or at the Leidos facility.
Key Responsibilities:
Survey systems utilized may include multibeam and single beam depth sounders, side scan sonar, Global Positioning System (GPS), sound velocity profilers, bottom samplers, and various data acquisition and processing software.
The selected candidate will be responsible for data processing, preparing survey systems for upcoming field seasons, and other assigned tasks in an office setting when not engaged at sea.
Data processing may involve data collected by Leidos or various clients.Essential Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering from an accredited institution, preferably with a focus on Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or Ocean Engineering.
Experience in maintaining and operating underwater survey sensors, multibeam and single beam depth sounders, side scan sonar, GPS, sound velocity profilers, bottom samplers, and data acquisition and processing software.
The ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance is required.Desirable Qualifications:
Proficiency in GIS software. Experience in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting survey systems and sensors. Hydrographer Level 1 or Level 2 Certification is a plus.
Compensation Information:
Pay Range: $55,000 - $99,875.00
The compensation range for this position serves as a general guideline and is not a guarantee of salary. Factors considered in determining an offer include job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, and internal equity, among others.
