Job Summary

The Staff Nurse I is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for the assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients and their families in compliance with the standards for care at Ahmc Healthcare Inc., American Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice, and American Nurse Practice Act.

Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate effectively with mentally ill patients and their families, demonstrating empathy and respect.
  • Work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, utilizing exemplary interpersonal skills.
  • Understand and adhere to client rights, psychiatric nursing process, and relevant policies and procedures.
  • Provide accurate and respectful care, including medication administration, skin and wound care, ADLs, and other essential patient care activities.
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and modify nursing care plans, preparing required records and reports.
  • Assess patient needs, assist and consult with physicians, and contract with other departments to obtain or provide patient information.
  • Organize, supervise, and accept responsibility for the quality of care provided by co-workers for a given work period.
  • Participate in promoting a healthful, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Set up and control the environment essential for infection control.
  • Participate in the implementation of patient care standards, infection control standards, and quality assurance criteria.
  • Provide and evaluate patient care established standards and criteria in conformity with the nursing care plan.
  • Monitor patients for significant and critical changes, initiating procedures as required, and documenting care given according to set standards and at required intervals.
  • Interpret and explain procedures, regimens, and services to patients and families, teaching health care and disease prevention techniques.
  • Utilize evidenced-based best practice by hourly rounding on all assigned patients.
  • Participate in every shift huddle report to communicate any red flags and ensure efficient patient hand-off.
  • Clean and organize work stations, aware and practice safety protocols of the department at all times.
  • Actively engage with all department and hospital improvement projects.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • BSN degree preferred.
  • Training and experience in psychiatric nursing preferred.
  • Current California RN licenses required.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification required.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention verification required within the first 3 months of hire.
