Job Overview

Position Summary: Through the AmeriCorps Texas grant initiative, Texas Southmost College (TSC) will engage AmeriCorps members to enhance communication regarding campus resources and support services. The goal is to foster greater involvement in campus activities and academic support services, ultimately aiming to improve student retention rates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate student retention by reaching out to those who are absent.
  • Connect students with employment assistance through the Career and Employment Services office.
  • Design and implement graduate and employer surveys, along with standard operating procedures for survey distribution, collection, and analysis.
  • Organize and participate in outreach initiatives for the division or department.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Members must wear their AmeriCorps uniform at all times during service and adhere to the guidelines outlined in their Member Service Agreement.
  • Exhibit responsible work habits, including punctuality, task focus, and professionalism in interactions.
  • Notify the site supervisor and relevant staff in case of absence or tardiness, as chronic issues may lead to suspension or dismissal.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to community service and effective communication with staff, fellow members, and community partners.
  • Members must be at least 18 years old and undergo a comprehensive National Service Criminal History Check.
  • Two member positions will require a minimum of 900 hours of service (approximately 24 hours per week), with schedules coordinated with the direct supervisor.
  • Participation in centralized AmeriCorps training and national service days is mandatory.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be an enrolled student at Texas Southmost College (TSC).
  • Successful completion of a four-part National Service Criminal History Check is required.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this role include frequent standing, occasional walking, and the ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for individuals with disabilities.

Work Environment: In the event of a disaster declaration, AmeriCorps members may be called upon to assist in recovery efforts, which could involve both virtual and in-person service opportunities.
