Avionics Hardware Design Engineer III

At Blue Origin, we're pushing the boundaries of space exploration and development. As an Avionics Hardware Design Engineer III, you'll play a critical role in designing and developing the avionics systems that will enable our vision of millions of people living and working in space.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop avionics hardware, including boards and integrated assemblies, with a focus on safety, reliability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and develop avionics architectures, including analog and digital systems.
  • Support risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), and design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx) to ensure the highest level of quality and reliability.
  • Participate in program-level technology development, mission assurance, and safety initiatives to drive innovation and excellence.
Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field with 7+ years of direct experience in electronics hardware development.
  • Direct hands-on experience developing complex commercial or aerospace electronic assemblies, including designing custom cards or integrating COTS hardware.
  • Strong understanding of analog and digital circuit analysis, simulation, design, test, debug, signal integrity, power, grounding, and general board layout principles.
  • Familiarity with use of complex computational devices (combinational and sequential logic) to monitor sensors and control actuators.
  • Excellent technical communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Graduate degree in related engineering or technical field with 10+ years of direct experience in electronics hardware development.
  • Demonstrated expertise designing high-reliability, safety-critical, Class 2/3 board assemblies, including familiarity with IPC 6xx and NASA-STD-8739.n (or similar) standards.
  • Proficiency using Altium/Cadence OrCAD / Allegro (or similar tools) to design complex aerospace boards, and experience working with external board manufacturing and assembly vendors.
  • Familiarity with scripting, programming, and analysis/modeling tools, including Python, Linux/Windows shell scripting, assembly language, C, C++, MATLAB / Simulink / SPICE (or similar).
