About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Budget Manager, Sr. to join our team at the City of Atlanta. As a key member of our finance department, you will play a critical role in planning, managing, and directing budgeting activities in accordance with public finance principles and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage complex budgeting activities, including the preparation of departmental operating and capital budgets.
  • Supervise a team of budget analysts and provide guidance and training as needed.
  • Perform and supervise the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual variance analysis and budget analysis for financial reports.
  • Compile and analyze data, prepare tables, charts, and summaries to be used in the City's budget documents and presentations.
  • Develop and implement budget recommendations, appropriations, and allocations.
  • Assist in evaluating and recommending funding needs for capital projects.
  • Work with staff to analyze requests from assigned departments, programs, and funds.
  • Review and make recommendations on department budget proposals.
  • Provide effective and proactive analysis of and feedback about budgetary issues.
  • Assist in the fiscal evaluation of proposed legislation.
  • Participate in strategic planning activities relating to assigned departments and programs.
  • Direct long-range planning activities to project future budget needs.
Requirements
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively convey technical, programmatic, and financial information.
  • Extensive knowledge of concepts and processes in finance.
  • Strong Microsoft experience, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with financial functions, such as V Look Up, Pivot Tables, Sum IF statements, and Macros.
  • Experience with financial management software and databases.
  • Skill in interpersonal communications and in presenting information.
  • Ability to apply professional knowledge to carry out assignments with limited supervision.
  • Ability to process numbers quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to spot inconsistencies and either troubleshoot issues as they arise or escalate to higher level.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to supervise and train others.
  • Ability to build effective relationships within the organization.
