Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team at North Shore Defunct. As a key member of our Radiology department, you will be responsible for performing diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures, monitoring patient conditions, and maintaining department equipment and supplies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures assigned by the team facilitator, operating nuclear medicine units.
  • Explain examination procedures to patients and provide necessary instructions.
  • Assist patients from wheelchairs and stretchers on and off the imaging table, positioning them for examination and applying immobilization devices and compression bands as needed.
  • Frequently monitor patient conditions in the Nuclear Medicine area, reporting any critical changes to the Radiologist or department nurse.
  • Administer correct radioisotopes to patients with the proper dosage according to department policy and procedure, accurately documenting the dosage on dose sheets in compliance with IEMA regulations.
  • Retrieve medications that are not controlled substances.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to assess, treat, and care for all age groups of patients, implementing assessment/treatment/care based on the developmental stages of the patient.
  • Involves family/guardian in plan of care and conducts patient and family education, as appropriate, considering the developmental needs of the patient.
  • Labels images with patient's medical record number, date, and last name, verifying patient's scan with radiologist regarding proper imaging record.
  • Participates in departmental Quality Improvement activities.
  • Maintains equipment and accessories, cleaning when needed, and reports all broken and malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
  • Maintains adequate levels of supplies, stocking area with supplies and ordering additional supplies as needed, and orders cleaning service for area as needed.
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth by attending Continuing Education classes, seminars, and by reading professional journals.
  • Performs on-call duties according to scheduled rotation.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine program, thorough knowledge of radioisotopes.
  • Current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Current Illinois Emergency Management Agency license.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the correct use of body mechanics.
  • Current CPR certification.
