Energy Efficiency Specialist

Key Objective

The Energy Efficiency Specialist plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional energy management services to esteemed clients across their diverse portfolios. Working with a prominent facilities management organization that oversees various properties, both owned and leased, this position requires an individual to operate across multiple client locations. The specialist will take a leading role in facilitating annual energy savings to achieve our clients' ambitious energy and carbon reduction goals.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in energy management.
  • Recognized certification in energy management, such as Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of key techniques and technologies that promote energy efficiency.
  • Accreditation from a relevant industry organization (e.g., CIBSE, EI, ASHRAE).
  • Proficiency in current energy and utility benchmarking methods and statistical analysis.
  • Familiarity with energy monitoring and targeting software.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Understanding of HVAC, refrigeration, and lighting systems, including design and integration of heating and cooling district systems.
  • Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and control theory to enhance energy savings.
  • Capability to conduct comprehensive energy audits and feasibility assessments of energy technologies (e.g., CHP).
  • Awareness of client operations, business drivers, financial considerations, and relevant legislative requirements.
  • Completion of a recognized degree or equivalent in energy, building services, or engineering (e.g., mechanical or electrical).
  • Possession of a valid driver's license without restrictions.

Core Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective management of energy resources to meet organizational and client objectives.
  • Identify, develop, and support the execution of new energy-related initiatives.
  • Perform all energy-related functions to guarantee service delivery and compliance.
  • Motivate and educate colleagues and client organizations on best practices in energy management.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of energy requirements (legal, statutory, and technical) relevant to client operations.
  • Promote energy efficiency and provide guidance for the advancement of energy-efficient practices.
  • Develop energy conservation measures (ECMs) with associated Return on Investment (ROI).
  • Advise on energy solutions and translate these into actionable projects.
  • Conduct energy assessments in client facilities (offices and retail).
  • Formulate and implement strategic briefs for design standards to align with client objectives.
  • Provide detailed feasibility studies of costed initiatives/projects aimed at reducing energy consumption and/or supply (e.g., embedded generation/CHP).
  • Manage and implement energy initiatives.
  • Deliver monitoring and verification throughout the project lifecycle to achieve cost-effective and energy-efficient solutions.
  • Stay informed on current utility market trends.
  • Plan, monitor, and achieve consumption and emission targets.
  • Understand utility supply trading frameworks.
  • Analyze utility profiles and benchmark against established data, collaborating with the ISS Energy Bureau as needed.
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc management reports on all aspects of energy performance.
  • Provide support and training to other operational departments on energy-related matters as appropriate.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a computer.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines during peak times.
