We are seeking a highly skilled Social Services Caseworker to join our team in Bladen County, NC. As an Income Maintenance Caseworker III, you will play a vital role in determining the eligibility of applicants and recipients for financial, medical, food assistance, and shelter programs through the Department of Social Services.

Job Summary

This is a full-time position that requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing paraprofessional work involving the determination or redetermination of eligibility, processing client intake and re-enrollment, and coordinating administrative aspects of assigned programs.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker, or an Associate's Degree from an accredited college in Human Services, Business Administration, Paralegal Technology, or related area and three years' experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker.

About the Role

In this role, you will:

  • Perform specialized administrative and case management services in support of Department of Social Services operations.
  • Provide training, instruction, and leadership to lower-level Income Maintenance Caseworkers as assigned.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations pertaining to assigned department programs.
  • Receive and respond to client/potential client inquiries, requests for assistance, and complaints regarding department programs, services, and related application processes.
  • Schedule appointments with, interview, and determine the eligibility of program applicants based on employment/income information obtained; verify Medicaid eligibility.
  • Process referrals in a timely manner.
  • Assist outside agencies with client eligibility determination as requested.
  • Screen clients for substance abuse, emotional health issues, family, and domestic violence; provide information and appropriate referrals to clients for various health and social services.
  • Complete front-end investigations of child support cases; complete necessary legal documents; research prior court orders, payments made, and absent parent information; determine level of child support cooperation; calculate past paid public assistance.
  • Evaluate individuals no longer receiving WorkFirst in all Medicaid programs; refer individuals to adult Medicaid programs and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Maintain accurate and complete client/program records; enter and verify data entries for accuracy and completeness.
  • Develop mutual responsibility agreement plans for clients; monitor client compliance, including school attendance and completion of assigned hours of work and activities.
  • Evaluate client requests for hardship exemptions and extensions; set hearing dates and document hearing results; complete case as determined by hearing officer.
  • Resolve conflicts between clients and case workers as necessary.
  • Gather information for and prepare a variety of records and reports required by the County and/or other agencies.
  • Assist in coordinating activities with those of other divisions, departments, and outside agencies as appropriate.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker, or an Associate's Degree from an accredited college in Human Services, Business Administration, Paralegal Technology, or related area and three years' experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker.
  • A valid North Carolina Driver's License.
