GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Home Loan Advisor - External is responsible for actively seeking new residential mortgage opportunities to achieve set loan quality and production targets.

This role involves building and nurturing a robust network of professional relationships to secure a steady stream of mortgage loan referrals. This network may include mortgage professionals, builders, and various personal and professional contacts.

The Advisor will enhance their network by engaging in business development activities, community events, and professional organizations.

Additionally, they will address branch or call center referrals only when a member requests an in-person consultation.

Providing exceptional service to members is paramount, and the Advisor must conduct themselves with professionalism and integrity at all times.

A comprehensive understanding of lending programs, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements is essential.


TASKS, DUTIES, FUNCTIONS:
  • Engage with prospective and current borrowers to discuss mortgage product options through various communication channels.
  • Assist members in selecting appropriate mortgage products, processing lock requests, and providing necessary disclosures as mandated by law.
  • Conduct an initial evaluation of mortgage applications, reviewing credit, financial data, and collateral information to identify potential underwriting issues early.
  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of state and federal regulations relevant to credit union compliance.
  • Manage the mortgage loan pipeline to ensure timely and accurate processing, delivering outstanding service with competitive application turnaround times.
  • Handle complex situations with professionalism and care.
  • Collaborate closely with the mortgage resource center and operations staff to ensure adherence to credit union standards.
  • Document all member interactions in the Loan Origination System (LOS) for effective communication.

PHYSICAL SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXERTION:

Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary for effective interaction with members and staff.

Ability to operate standard office equipment and online systems is required.


ORGANIZATIONAL CONTACTS & RELATIONSHIPS:
INTERNAL:
Mortgage operations staff, branch staff, contact center staff, and management.
EXTERNAL:
Members, prospective borrowers, realtors, builders, third-party vendors, and governmental agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent work experience; a four-year college degree is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of five years in a mortgage-related role, with at least two years of self-sourced business generation experience.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Exceptional member service skills, strong financial analysis capabilities, and current knowledge of the mortgage industry are essential.

Proficiency in collecting and reporting market information, understanding secondary market dynamics, and maintaining strong communication skills is required.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Prolonged sitting is necessary, with occasional mobility required. Corrected vision within normal range is expected.

Travel by car is necessary for meetings with applicants and partners, with occasional travel by plane for conferences or training as needed.


LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

This position qualifies as a Mortgage Loan Originator under the S.A.F.E Act, requiring a valid California driver's license and a clean driving record.
