Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Specialist III to join our team at the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong background in financial management, accounting, and budgeting.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a wide range of financial management, accounting, procurement, budget, and administrative tasks. This includes financial management of General Fund and grant funded programs, monitoring revenues and expenditures, and preparing financial reports as required by the agency, the federal government, the state, and the county.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of financial principles, methods, and practices, as well as the ability to apply them to complex governmental systems. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively supervise and coordinate the activities of staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial management of General Fund and grant funded programs
  • Monitoring revenues and expenditures
  • Preparing financial reports as required by the agency, the federal government, the state, and the county
  • Supervising and coordinating the activities of staff
  • Developing and implementing fiscal policies and procedures

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field
  • Three years of professional-level experience in finance, business administration, budgeting, or contract management
  • Master's degree in a related field or CPA may substitute for one year of experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with governmental budgeting, accounting, procurement, or financial management
  • Proficiency with MS Excel
  • Knowledge of Fairfax County finance and purchasing policies and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Grant financial management knowledge and experience

Working Conditions

The job is generally sedentary in nature, however, visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor, and the incumbent must be able to operate keyboard-driven equipment. The appointee to the position will be required to complete a criminal background check, credit check, driving record check, and polygraph exam to the satisfaction of the employer.
