Job Overview

The Education and Employment Support Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality program services to clients within the Compass team framework. This role is centered around the NAVIGATE model, providing tailored Supportive Education and Employment services. By employing person-centered approaches, advocacy, and direct assistance, the Specialist aids individuals in identifying and pursuing their personal goals.

The NAVIGATE program is designed for individuals who have experienced their first episode of non-affective psychosis. Treatment is facilitated by a coordinated specialty care (CSC) team, dedicated to helping clients achieve their personal aspirations and recovery objectives. The NAVIGATE initiative guides clients through their recovery journey, ensuring they can thrive at home, in the workplace, at educational institutions, and in social environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist clients in pursuing competitive job opportunities and educational aspirations in alignment with the NAVIGATE care model.
  • Incorporate essential principles and interventions into client interactions, including Shared Decision Making, Collaborative Decision Making, Strengths and Resiliency Focus, and Motivational Enhancement Skills.
  • Guide clients in effective communication and engagement within educational and employment systems, including necessary documentation support.
  • Educate clients on benefit eligibility and the implications of work and educational participation.
  • Support clients in understanding the financial impacts of their educational and employment choices.
  • Coach clients on job interview techniques and assist with relevant paperwork.
  • Collaborate with the Compass team to integrate educational and employment goals into individual treatment plans.
  • Engage clients in all aspects of psychiatric rehabilitation and therapeutic interventions as outlined in their treatment plans.
  • Provide training on independent living skills, including cooking, shopping, personal hygiene, and budgeting, to enhance participation in educational and employment pursuits.
  • Educate team members about supported employment services.
  • Work alongside other Compass team members to support clients' psychiatric recovery and overall wellness goals.
  • Attend necessary court hearings and complete required documentation as needed.
  • File mandated reports when applicable, including those related to Vulnerable Adults and Child Protection.
  • Coordinate care with substance use and other specialty providers for clients with co-occurring disorders.
  • Engage actively with clients and their families, including educational institutions and employers, with client consent.
  • Be available for evening work as required.
  • Participate in scheduled team meetings and provide transportation to clients as necessary.
  • Respond promptly to all forms of communication and maintain organized documentation per Compass policies.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and supervision as directed by management.
  • Contribute to discharge planning and coordination with clients for various community services.
  • Maintain consistent work hours and perform other assigned duties.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Behavioral Sciences or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2,000 hours of supervised experience working with individuals facing mental health challenges and substance abuse issues.

Preferred:

  • Experience in providing supported employment and education services.
