As a pivotal member of our dynamic Food Science Team, the Senior Research Scientist will play a critical role in enhancing our global initiatives through scientific expertise in ingredient functionality and food structure design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Science Platform Lead to conceptualize and implement science projects that align with our strategic objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance on functional food components, emphasizing flavor and texture enhancement across Mars Food & Nutrition.
  • Establish and oversee scientific projects both internally and in partnership with external research entities.
  • Lead interdisciplinary initiatives with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring effective project management and timely communication.
  • Organize and execute laboratory and pilot-scale experiments, showcasing strong organizational capabilities and engaging with relevant experts.
  • Manage science projects through the stage-gate process, which includes budgeting, reporting, and knowledge management.
  • Generate new intellectual property for the organization and oversee IP portfolios, including patent applications and compliance.
  • Contribute to the formation of a high-performing global Science & Technology team.
  • Effectively communicate project outcomes and technical findings to inform and influence key stakeholders.
  • Structure data and results into comprehensive technical memos, providing updates and ensuring smooth knowledge transfer.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and literature reviews with minimal supervision, while mentoring junior team members.
  • Influence senior stakeholders in project direction and decision-making processes.

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Food Science, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline is required; a PhD is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience post-PhD or 7 years post-Master’s, with at least 3 years in a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food material properties, flavor and texture dynamics, functional food ingredients, and food rheology.
  • Proficiency in analytical instrumentation for food structure analysis and sensory evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience in food structure innovation and flavor development.
  • Familiarity with functional ingredients, food emulsions, and processing techniques.
  • Solid project management abilities, including the capacity to convey complex information to diverse audiences.
  • Strong networking and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to connect with both internal and external partners.
  • A collaborative approach to lead in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with ready-to-heat meals, sauces, and dressings, as well as structural modeling in food, is advantageous.

Travel Requirements:

This global role may involve occasional travel, approximately 20% - 30%, both domestically and internationally, particularly during peak project phases. Flexibility to work across different time zones is essential.
