Essential Qualifications

Educational Background:

Completion of high school education or equivalent required; and Successful graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program or Eligibility for certification from recognized bodies such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) or The American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or National Health Career Association (NHA) or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) required within one year of employment.

Certifications:

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) must be obtained within one year of employment; and Current BLS/CPR certification from the American Heart Association required within 30 days of employment. Must maintain all necessary credentials.

Experience / Skills / Knowledge:

A minimum of six (6) months of experience as a medical assistant is required; or Completion of a medical assistant externship is mandatory. Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with colleagues, healthcare providers, patients, families, and the community. Familiarity with ICD9/10 and CPT coding as well as insurance processes. Primarily works on a set schedule, with occasional evening or weekend shifts based on patient care needs; flexibility to assist in other clinic locations as required.

Key Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Practice Manager and direct supervision of the physician, the incumbent will perform the following duties: Provide high-quality care to patients in a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) environment. Review patient charts prior to appointments to ensure all necessary lab work and diagnostic tests are completed and accessible. Measure and document patient vital signs, including temperature, pulse, height, weight, and blood pressure, as well as the reason for the visit, while utilizing the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system appropriately. Assist with patient access tasks, including taking messages and supporting providers with patient follow-up calls. Guide patients to examination rooms and prepare them for their appointments, notifying the provider of their readiness. Support healthcare providers during examinations and procedures, including surgical interventions, gynecological exams, diagnostic tests, and treatments. Operate and monitor medical equipment, providing instruments to the provider as needed. Conduct tests such as hearing, vision, respiratory assessments, and EKGs, recording results accurately. Administer medications as instructed, ensuring adherence to safety protocols. Perform venipuncture, collect urine samples, and conduct laboratory tests following established procedures. Identify emergency situations, seek assistance, and respond appropriately. Monitor patients during and after procedures, observing for any adverse reactions or complications; notify the appropriate personnel in case of medical emergencies. Ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors; comply with all organizational policies, procedures, and standards while managing time, supplies, and service quality effectively. Foster personal and professional growth by fulfilling continuing education and skills competency requirements; contribute to departmental goals that enhance organizational success; serve as a mentor and resource for less experienced staff. Demonstrate a commitment to serving the community by providing compassionate and personalized care experiences. Uphold the organization's service standards by delivering safe, caring, personalized, and efficient interactions with patients and colleagues. Perform other related duties as assigned.
