- Bachelor's Degree in Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or a related discipline. Mandatory
- Medical Laboratory Scientist - ASCP Certification by AMT or NCA is also acceptable. Required
- Certification in a single discipline such as Blood Bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Molecular Biology, or Microbiology may be considered based on the specific role.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in specimen collection or testing. Preferred
- Proficient in collecting and testing various specimens using sterile techniques. Adheres to departmental procedures, especially when quality control samples are outside acceptable limits.
- Ensures the delivery of high-quality, consistent, and reliable results while maintaining precise records.
- Possesses a solid understanding of the theoretical aspects of procedures and is capable of troubleshooting when results are questionable or inconsistent. Takes appropriate corrective actions when test systems are out of control limits.
- Maintains laboratory equipment according to the instruction manual, laboratory policies, and supervisor directives. Operates equipment correctly and thoroughly reviews manuals prior to use, understanding the equipment's functionality and limitations.
- Reports any unusual or inconsistent results to the supervisor. Maintains quality control records, ensuring limits are current and accurately calculated monthly.
- Communicates critical results to clinics, outreach clients, or inpatient nursing units, following departmental procedures for special reporting.
- Researches and develops new procedures or modifies existing ones as necessary.
- Evaluates delta checks in accordance with departmental protocols and communicates results when indicated.
- Adheres to specific laboratory computer procedures.
- Effectively interacts with patients/clients, prioritizing their overall welfare. Communicates relevant data or information regarding patients or laboratory samples to the ordering physician and documents the communication appropriately.
- Assists colleagues as time allows without compromising personal responsibilities. Utilizes spare time for work-related tasks and organizes workload during peak periods to expedite patient results. Adjusts priorities in response to urgent requests.
- Conducts inventory of supplies as directed by supervisory technologists and informs supervisors of any necessary supplies or equipment. Remains vigilant for opportunities to conserve supplies or enhance efficiency. Evaluates new products and supplies as instructed by supervisors.
- Provides lectures or bench training to Medical Technologist interns and other healthcare professionals. Instructs other staff and interns on techniques and procedures as directed by supervisory technologists, conveying knowledge competently and supportively.
- Reports any breaches of technique by support personnel or interns to the education coordinator or management staff. Completes necessary documentation.
