Overview

The Chief of Institutional Research is essential in advancing the College's mission through effective data management and analysis. This role requires collaboration with senior management, academic divisions, and administrative departments to facilitate informed decision-making, ensure regulatory compliance, and enhance institutional performance. The Chief will lead a team of research specialists, maintain data accuracy, and spearhead the development of a robust institutional research strategy.
Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Direction:
    • Formulate and implement a strategic plan for the Office of Institutional Research that aligns with the College's objectives.
    • Provide guidance to College leadership on compliance matters related to state, federal, and accrediting bodies.
  • Data Management and Analysis:
    • Supervise the gathering, examination, and interpretation of data concerning student enrollment, retention, graduation statistics, and faculty demographics.
    • Develop and modify SQL queries to meet reporting needs, extracting data in required formats for various stakeholders.
    • Evaluate compliance reporting processes and establish efficient practices to meet regulatory requirements.
    • Utilize statistical software for analyzing complex datasets, employing both quantitative and qualitative research methods.
    • Create and sustain institutional dashboards and reports for senior management and other stakeholders.
    • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and accreditation reporting standards.
  • Collaboration and Engagement:
    • Work in partnership with staff to assess and respond to compliance reporting obligations.
    • Utilize effective communication techniques to build productive relationships with external agencies and College personnel.
    • Maintain strong connections with accrediting organizations and regulatory bodies.
    • Assist the Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness in synthesizing and presenting data from various sources to support decision-making.
    • Engage with Institutional Effectiveness leadership to provide relevant data that informs operational decisions.
    • Participate in internal and external committees as required.
  • Data Integrity and Governance:
    • Establish and uphold data governance protocols to guarantee the accuracy and security of institutional data.
    • Collaborate with IT and data stewards to adopt best practices in data management.
  • Project Oversight:
    • Apply effective project management techniques to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
    • Handle multiple projects concurrently while adhering to strict deadlines.
    • Oversee the budget and resources of the Institutional Research department efficiently.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Guide and mentor a team of research analysts, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
    • Supervise an Institutional Research Specialist to ensure alignment with departmental objectives.
  • Benchmarking and Best Practices:
    • Stay informed on trends affecting higher education and assist leadership in addressing relevant issues.
    • Engage with peer institutions to benchmark performance and stay updated on best practices.
    • Encourage innovation in data analytics and research methodologies.
  • Confidentiality and Compliance:
    • Ensure the confidentiality of sensitive information and compliance with applicable regulations.
    • Willingness to work additional hours as necessary.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Master's degree in a relevant field such as Higher Education, Statistics, Data Science, or Public Policy.
  • Experience:
    • 5-10 years of experience in institutional research or data analysis, with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
    • Proven experience in designing and executing complex research studies.
    • Demonstrated ability to leverage data for strategic planning in higher education.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Advanced knowledge of SQL and statistical software such as SPSS, SAS, and R.
    • Familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau.
    • Experience with enterprise data systems and student information systems.
    • Knowledge of survey administration and analysis techniques.
  • Leadership Skills:
    • Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
    • Excellent communication and public speaking abilities.
    • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Knowledge Base:
    • Comprehensive understanding of higher education policies and accreditation processes.
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in research practices.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Detail-oriented with a history of producing high-quality work.

Benefits: This is a full-time Administrator position for 40 hours per week. The salary is $75,000 with comprehensive employee benefits including flexible health benefits, vacation, medical, personal days, and holiday leave.
