Halifax Health is seeking a skilled Coding Specialist I to join our Health Information Management (HIM) Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of patient medical records by assigning appropriate ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Review medical records for accurate code assignment, including principal diagnosis, co-morbidities, and complications.
- Query attending physicians for documentation and diagnostic clarification.
- Validate medical necessity for all Medicare patients and verify ancillary and department charges.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and adhere to AHIMA Standards of Ethical Coding.
Requirements
- Minimum 2-year college coding course, including anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and coding systems.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in ED/Ancillary coding or charging in an acute care setting.
- RHIT, CCS, CCSP, or CPC certification required.
- Knowledge of Local Coverage Determinations and National Coverage Determinations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail.
