Field Supervisor for Streets Response Team

Job Overview:

Under the direction of the Public Services Operations Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for addressing both emergency and routine situations within the Salt Lake City Public Services Department's jurisdiction. This role includes direct supervision of team members, task assignment, and scheduling. The supervisor will provide training, orientation, and continuous support to team members regarding equipment usage, procedural compliance, and safety protocols. The position also involves resolving service requests through appropriate actions or referrals to relevant agencies, while maintaining communication and follow-up with other divisions and departments.

Compensation:

$35.36/hr based on qualifications and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides immediate assistance in response to calls from residents and various city departments, utility companies, and state/county/city agencies.
  • Evaluates incoming calls to determine the appropriate response level for service requests, including snow and ice complaints, fire control support, and neutralizing non-hazardous spills.
  • Serves as a primary contact for after-hours emergencies across multiple city departments, making critical decisions regarding response actions and equipment deployment.
  • Operates a variety of city-owned equipment requiring a commercial driver's license, including heavy trucks, automated garbage collection vehicles, and earth-moving machinery.
  • Utilizes hand tools and power tools for tasks such as securing damaged buildings, repairing water pipes, and clearing debris from roadways.
  • Oversees the maintenance and condition of all team equipment, ensuring adequate inventory levels of tools and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Independently supervises the Streets Response Team (SRT) crew, coordinating with day supervisors and communicating actions taken for service requests.
  • Assigns personnel and equipment for projects, performing daily supervision at work sites and participating in employee evaluations.
  • Maintains records of significant calls and incidents, conducting detailed investigations of accidents after hours.
  • Reviews and assigns trouble calls, ensuring jobs are completed efficiently and adjusting daily assignments as necessary.
  • Trains new team members and monitors their performance, addressing any workplace issues as needed.
  • Monitors weather conditions and initiates appropriate responses to winter storms, ensuring compliance with the city's snow removal program.
  • Completes all necessary paperwork and inputs data into the Streets Cartegraph database, utilizing Microsoft Office suite for various job functions.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma plus four to six years of progressively responsible experience in heavy equipment operation or general construction maintenance.
  • Ability to effectively respond to customers in emergency situations.
  • Proficiency in computer usage, including report creation and data entry.
  • Knowledge of applicable city and state codes and ordinances.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with a diverse audience.
  • Valid Class A Utah Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Experience in maintaining public right-of-way and snow removal activities.
