Position Overview:

The role of the Information System Security Officer (ISSO) is crucial in ensuring the implementation and adherence to security compliance directives. This position entails hands-on execution and oversight for various programs and laboratories, focusing on maintaining and enforcing standard operating procedures derived from governmental compliance documents and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee compliance for designated information systems at the system level.
  • Develop and revise Risk Management Framework (RMF) documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs), Plans of Action and Milestones (POAMs), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct cybersecurity sustainment activities such as account management, auditing, and user training.
  • Perform system audits and validation of system baselines.
  • Manage incident response and remediation efforts.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including program managers and IT personnel.
  • Deliver initial and ongoing training for general and privileged users.
  • Conduct technical security assessments to identify vulnerabilities as part of a continuous monitoring strategy.
  • Manage eMASS artifacts and submit necessary Authorization and Accreditation (A&A) packages.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 3 years of experience, or 9 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Possession of an active Top Secret (TS) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.
  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory for security clearance eligibility.

Required Skills:

  • Certification at DoDD 8570/8140 IAM Level 2/IAT Level 3 (e.g., CASP+, Security+, CISSP).
  • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-series RMF guidelines.
  • Experience with cybersecurity assessment tools such as SCAP Compliance Checker and Nessus.
  • Understanding of wide and local area networks, including servers and firewalls.
  • Proficiency in using Splunk for dashboard configuration and query optimization.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
