Electrical Substation Design Engineer (Senior)

Tetra Tech is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Substation Design Engineer (Senior) to join our Power Division. As a key member of our team, you will work remotely with a group located across the United States and Canada, with the option to access a local office if required.

Responsibilities:
  • Assign and outline work, advise on technical problems, and review work for technical accuracy and adequacy.
  • Review and prepare technical documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with technical requirements.
  • Prepare proposal write-ups and estimates based on client Request for Proposals (RFPs).
  • Develop, approve, and coordinate work schedules to ensure objectives of cost, quality, and time are met.
  • Establish and maintain client contacts to seek or provide technical information related to the immediate project.
  • Analyze problems, organize investigations, and determine specific design criteria.
  • Make commitments on acceptance of projects, completion dates, resources, and staff required to meet objectives.
  • Have knowledge of related disciplines/fields of engineering.
Requirements:
  • University degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Over 10 years of working experience in Electrical Engineering.
  • Possess experience in the study, technical knowledge, and design expertise of electrical distribution systems and industrial controls for a broad range of industries, with a heavy emphasis on utility substations.
  • Possess knowledge in the design of medium and high voltage power distribution and transmission, including load flow, short circuit, and grounding studies, transformer sizing, and cable sizing.
  • Possess experience in preparing layouts, elevation views, installation details, grounding, lighting, cable trays, and conduit layout drawings.
  • Possess exceptional communication skills (client relations, team project communications, and proposal and report development).
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in preparing technical specifications of electrical equipment, evaluating proposals, and reviewing vendor drawings.
  • The ideal candidate will have knowledge of design of renewable energy facilities such as solar and wind farms.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with HVDC projects.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience conducting projects using a 3D design software.
  • The ideal candidate will be registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada or the United States.

The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $190,000. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
