Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Substation Electrical Engineer at WSP. As a key member of our Energy Team, you will be responsible for designing and developing electrical systems for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare conceptual designs for complex projects
  • Carry out, review, and analyze technical studies and project scopes
  • Develop and review technical specifications, drawings, and standards for equipment and projects
  • Review design-based memoranda, detailed engineering scopes, and guide assigned discipline engineers to align engineering deliverables with project requirements
  • Work closely with peers to ensure accurate delivery and thorough electrical design that meets industry standards and specifications
  • Create substation designs, including one-line, plan view, and sections, grounding plans, and detail drawings
  • Maintain complete project documentation, including engineering studies and calculations, design packages, as-built requirements, and return data information
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal groups, including other engineering disciplines, drafting, procurement, construction, and project management
  • Select equipment and materials and prepare specifications for material, equipment, construction, and installation work
  • Develop grounding studies and reports
  • Develop lightning protection studies and reports
  • Develop cable ampacity, cable voltage drop, and power loss studies and reports
  • Review internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice, and constructability
  • Coordinate design activities with other multi-discipline project team members
  • Provide construction support, including resolving site queries, attending site meetings, and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers within the department
  • Support technical proposals and pursuits
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • A minimum of 8+ years' experience in utility-scale substation design
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical is an asset
  • Experience with system study software, such as PSS/E, EasyPower, or ETAP, is a strong plus
  • Experience with grounding/lightning protection and cable ampacity study software, such as CDEGS, WinIGS, ETAP, or CYMCAP, is a strong plus and important criteria for hiring
  • Experience with Arc-Flash Studies is an asset
  • Knowledge of modern power systems, renewable projects (solar, wind farm, hydro, and BESS), and data center projects is a strong plus
  • Knowledge of T-Line design, particularly utilizing PLS-CADD, is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of 3-D substation design software is an asset
  • Strong client focus
  • Experience with station equipment FAT witness is an asset
  • Knowledge of high-voltage and utility codes and standards
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures

Compensation:

Expected Salary $99,800 - $164,800

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location.
