Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Corporate Safety Director to join our team at KDC Construction. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for ensuring the company meets all safety expectations and actively supports Occupational Health and Safety.

The successful candidate will oversee and direct the Safety Program for all regions, including field construction work, service maintenance teams, warehouses, fabrication shops, and office safety. This role is responsible for training all employees and leading safety compliance initiatives to reduce workplace injuries and accidents.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of federal, state, and local construction-related safety regulations and laws. They will also have knowledge of construction and general industry safety, including compliance with stormwater pollution, Air Quality Management District regulations, and Environmental Protection Agency and Hazardous Materials.

The Corporate Safety Director will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Ensuring compliance with stormwater pollution, Air Quality Management District regulations, and Environmental Protection Agency and Hazardous Materials.
  • Supporting and promoting the company's strong safety culture, both internally and externally.
  • Managing team performance, including appraisals, development, coaching, communicating expectations, redirecting performance, and enforcing all policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Identifying best practices and training needs for safety awareness initiatives to reduce risks and continuously looking for ways to improve safe work practices.
  • Managing and conducting safety training, including new hire safety orientation, field safety training for company and subcontractors, and mandatory training.
  • Identifying hazards, analyzing, and reporting on the effectiveness of safety initiatives, programs, policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Providing guidance, consultation, and reinforcement to superintendents, project managers, and other personnel regarding safety policies and subcontractor compliance.
  • Developing and maintaining the company's emergency response and crisis management plan.
  • Managing safety teams processes, including regular inspections, reviews compliance at all office/field job sites, develops action steps to correct deficiencies, distributes detailed reports of findings, and follows up to ensure implemented measures.
  • Reviews and approves all crane lift plans, erect scaffolds, and excavation trenching procedures with subcontractor permits in all regions.
  • Preparing all Corrective Action Plans for Requests for Proposals. Audits subcontractor Site Specific Safety and Health Plans and pre-qualification safety programs.
  • Investigating all incidents (near-misses to fatalities) utilizing the Root Cause Analysis format, including work-related injuries to company personnel and subcontractor workers, property damage, auto, fire, thefts, and vandalism.
  • Managing all safety reporting, including monitoring the effectiveness of safety initiatives, Total Recordable Incident Rate, monthly reporting, quarterly formal insurance company claim reviews, and annual submissions to OSHA for trenching permits and OSHA 300 log.
  • Managing all aspects of property, liability, and auto claims, including attending auto claim mediations, hearings, and employee depositions.
  • Managing Workers' Compensation claims, including investigating, managing return to work, and negotiating claim settlements and reserves.
  • Coordinating with insurance brokers and outside loss control services regarding implementing insurance requirements and loss control initiatives.
  • Managing all insurance-related claim matters, including incident reporting, contacting insurance brokers, contacting outside loss control services, implementing insurance requirements, loss control initiatives, and subrogation recoveries.
  • Attending client-requested risk, safety, and incident meetings.
  • Preparing defense for all OSHA citations and notices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years' commercial construction safety management experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current knowledge of all federal, state, and local construction-related safety regulations and laws.
  • Knowledge of construction and general industry safety, including compliance with stormwater pollution, AQMD Regulations, and EPA & Hazardous Material.
  • Current OSHA 500, OSHA 30 Certification, and CPR/First aid Certification.
  • Ability to use discretion, independent judgment, and professional skills. Ability to problem solve, analyze data, negotiate, and make recommendations.
  • Professional integrity and sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, have strong attention to detail, and have time management skills to achieve all established deadlines.
  • Proficient with computers and familiar with Microsoft Software Suite.
  • Able to identify a need, remove barriers, and know how to make things happen.
  • Values diversity of ideas, opinions, and people. Has good common sense and applied logic.
  • Must possess or obtain an appropriate state driver's license before employment, a clean driving record, and reliable transportation.

KDC Construction offers a competitive salary/hourly range of $135,300 to $169,000 per year – while considering the candidate's experience and a comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees:
