A successful Construction Project Coordinator is meticulous, innovative, and capable of juggling multiple projects concurrently. They thrive under pressure, adeptly managing strict budgets and timelines.

Additionally, they are expected to mentor team members and foster relationships with stakeholders, including owners, colleagues, vendors, suppliers, and community partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with design and engineering teams to guarantee that projects are designed, procured, and executed within financial and operational frameworks.
  • Develop and oversee project schedules to ensure timely construction progress.
  • Review shop drawings and submissions for adherence to project specifications.
  • Issue and manage vendor and subcontractor agreements, clearly defining their responsibilities; evaluate and approve payment requests from subcontractors and vendors.
  • Procure and track the delivery of necessary materials, ensuring optimal pricing, quality, and compliance with specifications.
  • Conduct weekly site visits (when feasible) to assess progress and quality; facilitate jobsite meetings to address ongoing responsibilities and required actions.
  • Identify potential safety hazards, lead safety review meetings, and ensure maintenance of safety documentation.
  • Proactively address client inquiries and navigate challenging discussions regarding costs, quality, or timelines.
  • Prepare various reports to effectively manage projects, including monthly updates, analyses, schedules, billing, and status reports for stakeholders and management.
  • Assist with additional duties as assigned, relevant to achieving the objectives of the position and team.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in construction management within the industrial sector.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience with profit and loss responsibility across multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in various computer software applications, including MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Project, Word), PDF, and estimating/documentation programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
  • High emotional intelligence with the capacity to build relationships and work with diverse personality types.
  • Demonstrated experience with various contracting methods, including lump sum, GMP, cost-plus construction management, and fee-based construction.
  • Working knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and related reporting.
  • A valid driver's license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance with company policy.

Physical Requirements:

This role is performed on an active construction site, requiring prolonged standing or walking. Utilization of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers is necessary. Effective communication with internal and external contacts is essential, including verbal and auditory skills. Occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 lbs may be required.

Travel Requirements:

All positions at Fortis necessitate some level of driving.
