Job Summary

The Patient Service Representative is a vital member of our team at Palomar Health Medical Group. As the face of our organization, this individual is responsible for providing exceptional patient care and ensuring a smooth experience for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Greeting and Check-in: Greet and check in patients in a friendly and professional manner, ensuring accurate patient information is documented.
  • Customer Service: Maintain a high level of customer service with patients, staff, and providers, resolving any issues promptly and professionally.
  • Phone Management: Answer a high volume of internal and external calls, resolving call queries and providing accurate information to patients and providers.
  • Registration and Insurance Verification: Ensure patients complete required forms, obtain necessary signatures, and accurately enter patient information for registration. Verify patient insurance, personal, and health information at the time of service.
  • Outbound Calling: Make outbound calls to patients regarding missed appointments, follow-up on tasked messages, and schedule appointments as needed.
  • Patient Flow Management: Monitor daily scheduling, scan the lobby for waiting patients, and follow up with Back Office staff as needed to ensure a smooth patient flow.
  • Financial Transactions: Collect patient insurance co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles, and prior balances, explaining payment policy and billing procedures as needed.
  • Administrative Tasks: Prepare and file patient forms, balance daily monies and receipts, and create deposits.
  • Process Improvement: Make recommendations to improve processes and procedures to enhance patient flow, patient satisfaction, and quality.
  • Department Support: Serve as department receptionist for outside vendors and contractors, completing other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Education: High School diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: Minimum one year of experience in a customer service position, preferably in a medical practice setting.
  • Skills: Working knowledge of contracted insurances, patient benefits, and third-party requirements preferred. Experience answering telephones and computer proficiency required.
