POSITION: PARTICIPANT CARE ASSOCIATE (PCA)

The Participant Care Associate (PCA) plays a crucial role in delivering essential support services to participants in various settings, including their homes and community environments. Under the guidance of the Center Manager or Team Lead, the PCA ensures that each participant receives personalized care as outlined in their individual Care Plan. This position requires a compassionate individual who is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for frail elders.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessments to develop a tailored PCA plan of care.
  • Provide assistance in maintaining both physical and emotional well-being for participants.
  • Support participants and their families in achieving independence and self-reliance.
  • Execute a variety of tasks, including:
    • Personal hygiene assistance
    • Support with daily activities
    • Meal preparation and feeding assistance
    • Toileting support and incontinence management
    • Basic medical treatments
    • Shopping and errands
    • Medication reminders
    • Laundry and housekeeping tasks
    • Transportation to appointments
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided during each visit.
  • Report any service complaints or schedule deviations to the supervisor.
  • Respond to emergencies in accordance with established protocols.
  • Adhere strictly to the defined scope of practice.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Variable working conditions with potential exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Monthly supervision by a registered nurse in the participant's home.
  • Annual evaluations of PCA performance through joint visits.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary for travel within designated areas.
  • Physical demands may include lifting, bending, and assisting with patient mobility.
  • Flexibility in participant assignments based on changing needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Current CPR certification is mandatory.
  • Preferred certification with at least one year of experience in elder care settings.
  • Completion of a formal training program in a relevant field is necessary.
  • Participation in ongoing training and competency assessments is required.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations and those with special needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and respect for the dignity of participants.
